The
Curriculum in Genetics and Molecular Biology (CGMB) is an interdepartmental
graduate program that trains students to be creative, sophisticated research
scientists prepared to pursue careers in academic, government, or commercial
positions. The program is Chaired by Robert Duronio, PhD.
Students conduct their dissertation research under the supervision of
one of the 78 faculty members of the Curriculum. Research in these laboratories
employs diverse experimental approaches, from classical genetics to the
most modern molecular methods, to address a broad range of contemporary
problems in biomedical science. [GMB Site]
In addition, The UNC-CH program in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology
is a certificate granting program which works with various degree granting
UNC departments to offer a specialization in Bioinformatics and Computational
Biology, in addition to the coursework of a student's home department. The
goal is to train students to be mature, sophisticated and well rounded scientists
and researchers. [BCB
