The Genetic Medicine Building, designed by Lord, Aeck & Sargent Architects, is a state of the art research building. At approximately 333,000 square feet, it is one of the largest buildings on campus, with a floor plate of approximately one acre. Occupants of the building include the School of Pharmacy, and the departments of Genetics, Biochemistryand Biophysics and Pharmacology. The Department of Genetics is on the 5th floor.

Directions to the Genetic Medicine Building

Driving from RDU airport

Take Airport Blvd. to I-40. Take I-40 West and proceed for 10.6 miles. Take exit 273 toward Chapel Hill (54 West). After 2.9 miles, 54W exits to your right after you pass under a bridge. Take the exit to the right, go up the ramp to the traffic signal, and bear right onto 15/501 South. After approximately 1 mile (at the second stoplight) you will come to a large intersection; with a sign that says “Chapel Hill/Kenan Stadium/Smith Center”; this is Manning Drive. Turn right onto Manning Drive. Follow Manning Drive up through campus. Turn left at the fourth traffic signal (Neuroscience Hospital will be on your right) onto East Drive, which turns into Mason Farm Road. Follow Mason Farm Road behind the parking decks, and under a pedestrian overpass. The GMB is on the left on the corner of Mason Farm Road and Daniels Road. The GMB is situated between the Bioinformatics Building and the EPA Building. Limited parking may be found along Mason Farm Rd. Pay parking for visitors is located at the Ambulatory Care Center and the Dogwood Parking Deck.

Driving from 15-501/54

Take Manning Drive off of 15-501/54, up through campus. Turn left at the fourth traffic signal (Neuroscience Hospital will be on your right) onto East Drive, which turns into Mason Farm Road. Follow Mason Farm Road behind the parking decks, and under a pedestrian overpass. The GMB is on the left on the corner of Mason Farm Road and Daniels Road. The GMB is situated between the Bioinformatics Building and the EPA building. Limited parking may be found along Mason Farm Rd. Pay parking for visitors is located at the Ambulatory Care Center and the Dogwood Parking Deck.

Driving from Franklin Street/Carolina Inn

Follow Pittsboro Street and cross S. Columbia Street at the traffic signal. You are now on Manning Drive. Take the first right (West Drive; one way street). The GMB is ahead of you on the corner of Mason Farm Road and Daniels Road, situated between the Bioinformatics Building and the EPA Building. Limited parking may be found along Mason Farm Rd. Pay parking for visitors is located at the Ambulatory Care Center and the Dogwood Parking Deck.

Walking from Franklin Street/Carolina Inn

Go south on Columbia Street to the corner of Mason Farm Road. Turn left, walk past the ACC parking lot and the EPA building, and walk to the corner of Daniels Road. The GMB is on the right.

Delivery Instructions
